Susan Weinschenk has a Ph.D. in Psychology and a 30 year career in applying principles of Psychology to the design of technology interfaces. Her experience includes user experience consulting and training for Fortune 1000 companies, designing the user interface of software, intranets, websites, web applications, and even copiers, microwaves and medical devices.
While working on her Ph.D., Dr. Weinschenk conducted research on the left and right half of the brain. She did a short stint as a college professor in Psychology at State University of New York (Oswego) and then began her consulting career in user experience. Focusing first on cognitive psychology (how people think, remember, perceive), and making technology more usable, she has recently gone back to her neuropsychology roots, studying the newest brain science and research on unconscious processing -- decision making, persuasion, and emotion.
Susan started college at Virgnina Tech and finished her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Northeastern. She completed her Masters and Ph.D. degrees at Pennsylvania State University, where she was on full scholarship. (For fun and a little more money during graduate school, she worked a few hours a week for Joe Paterno tutoring the football team in Statistics!)
Dr. Weinschenk is currently Chief of Technical Staff at Human Factors International (HFI). She manages the sales, consulting services and training development and delivery for the USA operations of HFI. She is also a well known, international, public speaker.
Susan lives in Wisconsin, USA, with her husband. She has two children, and when she’s not working or writing, she performs in community theatre, sings jazz, reads books, watches movies, and bakes artisan breads.
